If you are on unemployment do you need a W2 to file your taxes?

A W-2 tax form is the form that is filled out by an employer, or in this case the government, that allows you to see the amount of income/benefits you have earned over the calendar year, and the taxes withheld from you. It is always needed for tax filing when you are an employee, but if you are on unemployment, then you don't necessarily need to. When you are unemployed and receive unemployment benefits from the government, you must file with a W-2 form, unless you are fully aware of how much you are receiving, and how much you are being withheld. Knowing these two figures permits you to file your taxes without requiring you to have the W-2 form.
